About These Images
In March 2007, I achieved my Associate Qualification with the Royal Photographic Society. My journey in photography began in the 1960s, during which I honed my skills while photographing in London, the Midlands, and the South West. I pursued this qualification as I had recently started teaching photography alongside a colleague of mine at a college. Given my extensive background in the field, I saw this as a natural progression that aligned with my existing expertise.
This experience has deepened my understanding of teaching and mentoring in photography. I have come to appreciate that while technical skills—such as working with cameras, lighting, and both film and digital formats—can be taught, the essence of great photography is an innate talent. My approach to teaching emphasizes personal satisfaction with one’s work and the importance of selectively taking advice that resonates with one’s artistic vision.
