About These Images

I began my photography career in March 1967, at a time when the influence of the 1960s fashion revolution was still palpable. Fashion had always been a compelling subject for me, making it a natural focus for my work.

Growing up just 18 houses away from the birthplace of renowned photographer David Bailey in Leytonstone, East London, I was immersed in an era when new wave photography was taking shape. Pioneering figures such as David Bailey, John Swannell, and Terence Donovan were redefining the world of fashion photography.

The industry was also being shaped by influential designers and fashion icons, including BIBA founder Barbara Hulanicki, French Connection designer Nicole Farhi, and fashion visionaries like Cathy McGowan and Jeff Banks. My journey in fashion photography led me to events such as The Clothes Show in Birmingham, where I had the privilege of capturing moments while seated between athlete Roger Black and esteemed fashion photographer Ian Spratt.

While attending The Clothes Show at the BBC, I had the opportunity to speak with students from the London School of Design. During one of these conversations, I struck up a chat with a young student who turned out to be Alexander McQueen. He was a quiet and gentle individual, yet his deep passion for fashion was unmistakable. It wasn’t until six or seven years later that I fully realized the extent of his rising fame.
